Every year in February, the people of northern Tawang celebrate Losar festival. Losar festival represents the New Year of Monpas and is the region’s most popular festival. Monpas is a major ethnic group of Tawang. Before the festival begins, local people clean their homes and throw away all unused and old things. Because they believe that such ritual brings them and their families good health, peace, and prosperity.

During Losar festival, Monpa tribal people dressed in colorful clothes on the streets of Tawang. On the first day of the festival, they give roast buttered Barley as offerings to deities. And everybody prays for a good harvest. On the second day, people honor their national leaders and country heroes. On the third day, people honor the Buddhist deity Dharmapala. And hoist red prayer flags over every house. Various celebration activities continue for one to two weeks. The Monpas get together with their friends and relatives and feast grandly. Losar festival is celebrated in the beautiful state of Arunachal Pradesh in North East India. The show takes place in the town of Tawang. It is a beautiful hill station located at an altitude of more than 3000 meters. It lies just next to Bhutan. Furthermore, Tawang offers visitors with various trekking routes, glacier lakes. In addition, charming atmosphere of the town and hospitality is worth a visit. Tawang is an important center for Buddhist learning. It hosts the second largest Buddhist Monastery in the World. The Monpa Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh also considers Tawang as their home. They belong to the Mongoloid stock and their main occupation is agriculture and animal husbandry. Finally, one can round up their trip by visiting the Jang waterfall.

Day 1

We greet you at Guwahati Airport. From the airport, we drive to Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary for a Jeep Safari. We will try to spot one horned Rhinoceros, an endangered rhino breed indigenous to Assam. Later, we travel to Mayong, which is the famous land of black magic in India. Don’t be scared, it is no longer practiced, but Mayong museum showcases the relics of it. We will stop by Burha Mayong to visit the longest Stone inscription in Asia (3.85 meters). Overnight stay is arranged at homestay in Guwahati, where bonfire and traditional Bodo dinner awaits us.

Day 2

After breakfast, we will travel to Tezpur city. On the way, we get to see ‘Kolia Bhomora Setu’, a bridge which is 3015 meters long. In Tezpur, we will visit various historical places such as the site of the fortress called Agnigarh, Cole Park and the Hanuman Mandir temple. After the visit, relax at the hotel.

Day 3

After breakfast, drive to Dhirang. On the way, we will visit the Tipi Orchard Center.

Day 4

We travel to Tawang. On our way, we visit the apple farms at Dhirang, the yak research centre and will cross Sela paas, a snow covered terrain at an altitude of 14,000 feet. We enjoy a cup of tea at Jaswantgarh before we arrive in Tawang.

Day 5

Festival day! After breakfast, we will visit Tawang Monastery and then join the festivities of Losar Festival.

Day 6

Festival day! We spend the first half of the day at the Festivities of Losar Festival. Later, we travel to Bomdila.

Day 7

Early morning, we visit Bomdila monastery followed by the centers of art and craft. Later, we return to Tezpur where we stay at a hotel overnight.

Day 8

After breakfast, we drop you at Tezpur Airport for your onward destination or back home. Bid Adieu!
