Khajuraho Dance Festival, Madhya Pradesh, India
Every year at the end of winter, Khajuraho town in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh hosts Khajuraho Dance Festival. This week-long festival brings together various Indian classical dancers to converge in Khajuraho. The dancers perform eight forms of Indian classical dances at a heritage setting which is 1000 years old. The dances characterize spiritual, intellectual and social heritage of India. The event is so special that once a dancer said that “Every dancer worth her mettle dreams of performing at Khajuraho festival”.

Western group of temples, Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh
Khajuraho dance festival takes place at UNESCO recognized World Heritage temples of Khajuraho, dating back to 10th century. Visitors can observe the tapestry of life and lifestyle of that period carved on lifeless stones. Besides stark erotic depiction, there is also an exquisite representation of daily chores of affluent Chandelas. The carvings also include warriors, serried troops, kings in meeting with his ministers, ladies, and make-up, boudoir and love-making etc. currently there are only 22 temples out of the original 85 temples. Some of the important temples are Chaunsath Yogni Temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, Chitragupta or Bharatji Temple.
Besides Khajuraho, the state of Madhya Pradesh is also home to national parks with a high density of tigers. Visitors can also spot barking deer, sloth bear, over 250 species of birds, many reptiles and insects.
