Jaisalmer Desert Festival takes place every year in the last month of winter. During these 3 days, the golden sands of Jaisalmer town turn to a real extravaganza! This festival invites visitors from all over the world to experience real colors and tastes of Rajasthan. Most of all, it is one of a few nonreligious festivals in India.

The festival takes place in golden Sam’s sand dunes near Jaisalmer town. People dressed in colorful traditional clothes fill the event. Nomads bring various crafts of Rajasthan to the festival stalls for selling. And artists fascinate visitors with live performances! Visitors often find themselves lost in those colorful bazaars. Additionally, the festival offers visitors a glimpse of many live folk music and dance shows. Visitors can witness or even participate in various competitions perhaps never seen before. Some of them include Mr. and Miss. Desert, turban tying, and longest mustache contest! Most noteworthy, the Desert Festival remains incomplete without the main desert attributes, Camels. They transport people and goods to the venue and are also part of big shows. One gets to see various camel contests such as camel races or camel polo. Jaisalmer Town, Rajasthan

The town of Jaisalmer is located in Rajasthan, the western state of India. It lies next to the Thar Desert and is also popular as the golden city of India. Jaisalmer is a world heritage site. Unlike other cities in Rajasthan, Jaisalmer is a small town with a population of just around 80,000 people. This creates a special easy-going atmosphere for visitors. Most visitors in Jaisalmer like to try the camel tour. And many visitors stroll around the town visiting some of its wonders. Jaisalmer Fort is one such place, a marvelous piece of architectural work, which is, unlike others, still in use.

We will give you a welcome briefing regarding various aspects of the tour. You will also be handed over the India travel kit containing all relevant documents of your trip (air/rail tickets, hotel vouchers, transport, guide, sightseeing vouchers, writing pads with other travel related documents).

[/timeline_item][timeline_item item_number=”2″ title=”Day 2″] You fly from Delhi to Jodhpur and later drive to Jaisalmer. En route, we stop by at Osyian and later at Keechan. At Osiyan, we visit intricately carved temples erected by the wealthy merchants of the area. At Keechan, you get to see flocks of Demoiselle cranes that migrate over 4,000 km mainly to India. Later, we drive to Jaisalmer and rest at the hotel.

[/timeline_item][timeline_item item_number=”3″ title=”Day 3″] Festival day! We wake up early in the morning to attend prayers at the Gadsisar Lake. You will later return to hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, you set out to explore the town of Jaisalmer, followed by the visit to the desert festival! You can enjoy the festival for the rest of the day. Among various programs, there will be the Turban Tying Competition, Mr. and Miss. Desert contest followed by an acrobatic performance from the Indian Air Force. In the evening, there will be various folk dance and music programs along with fireworks. We suggest that you to return to the hotel after air show and attend music programs the next day.

You will have a chance to participate and contribute to your team’s win in a Tug of war – Indians vs. Foreigners (both men and women). Ladies also have the opportunity to test their balancing act in the Matka (earthen pitcher) race competition. There will also be camel decoration, camel polo and other programs. Later you can visit few heritage mansions of rich merchants and spend the rest of the evening roaming in the streets of Jaisalmer. Return to the hotel for overnight stay.

Then you will drive to Sam sand dunes, the venue for the grand finale of the desert festival. In the final part of the trip, you will reach the venue on a camel. You will also enjoy the grand cultural program by folk artists of Rajasthan in a perfect milieu. And in the evening, you will also see fireworks. At night, your stay will be in a tented accommodation at the festival site.
